Wicklow Rovers Senior Ladies played in the first WDFL Ladies 7 a side Blitz in Travers Insurance Park in Arklow today. Rovers were drawn in a group with Newtown and Greystones.

Rovers first match was against a very strong Newtown side who had just beaten Greystones 4-1. Rovers kept Newtown at bay in a very tight game and came away with an impressive 0-0 draw.

Next it was Rovers turn to play Greystones and the girls put in another strong performance winning 2-0 with two well taken goals from Niamh O’Brien.

This left Rovers level with Newtown on 4 points each. Newtown topped the group however with a superior goal difference.

In the play-off for the second place teams Rovers opponents were Glencormac who had finished second in a group with Arklow and Aughrim. This was an exciting game with a strong performance put in by all the girls. Glencormac proved slightly stronger over the 30 minutes leaving Rovers to pick up the runners up medals. Well done girls, it's been a long road to this point. Congratulations on your excellent performance today and a massive thanks to Tom and Hugh for managing and coaching the girls.

Everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to thank the WDFL for running the event for all the ladies. A massive thanks to Arklow Town FC for hosting the event, your hospitality throughout the day was very much appreciated by everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC. Once again a big thanks to the WDFL and Arklow Town FC.

Team: Amy Kavanagh, Louise Johnston, Cara Walsh, Jade Manley, Sinéad Keogh, Emma Waters, Niamh O’Brien, Sophie Byrne, Katie O’Connor, Lucy McGettigan, Elaine Kileen, Megan Stokes. Coaches: Tom Doyle, Hugh Kennedy.
