It was 18's versus 19's at Whitegates tonight, in a youths league match at a cold freezing Whitegates tonight our two youth teams came into direct opposition. The last time they met the 18's came out on top and they started this game looking to continue their good form of late which had saw them move into contention for the title. The 18's were on top throughout the first period and went in at the break 1-0 up courtesy of a Luke Dunne strike which they deserved on the balance of play in the first half. If the 18's were on top in the first period it was the complete opposite in the second with the 19's in total command. The 19's levelled matters from the penalty spot when Conor Leonard coolly dispatched the spot kick into the bottom left hand corner. Shortly after the 19's were reduced to ten men which seemed a little harsh as the game was played in great spirit. It didn't seem to stop the 19's momentum and the game swung on another awarded penalty which Conor Leonard made no mistake to put the 19's 2-1 ahead. The last ten minutes saw the 18’s create a couple of half chances but they couldn't find a way past a stubborn 19's rearguard as the 19's ran out 2-1 winners. In truth there was nothing between the two teams, the 18’s were the better team in the first half while the 19's dictated play in the second period. The game was played in good spirit and both teams have to be complimented on that, well done to both sets of players.
