WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 20th FEBRUARY 2022
The weather played havoc with our fixtures at the weekend, the rough conditions put a halt to all our scheduled games for last weekend. Our two WDFL teams games were both victims, the premier teams game against Arklow Celtic fixed for Friday night at Whitegates was first to go, that was followed by the second teams game away to Carnew with finally the MGL Lee Brothers cup semi final between our under 18 girls and Rush Athletic going by the wayside. With the junior section of the club due to get up and running this coming weekend let’s hope the weather improves.
With the new WDSL season due to start this coming weekend the club committee would like to wish all our teams, managers and players a very successful and enjoyable season. The season kicks off this coming weekend the 26th of February and will run through to the 25th of June. The league will then take its summer break and resume on the weekend of the 20th of August with the season finishing up the weekend of the 27th of November.
All managers please remember with the new junior season upon us we request that you send in your match result and goalscorers to your relevant fixtures secretary as soon as possible on completion of your match. It doesn’t matter what the result is, the result still needs to be sent in. This needs to be done for several reasons, media deadlines [Wicklow People, Club Facebook and Club Website] need to be met as well as the league needing to keep records for the purposes of regrading. Please remember we are all volunteers and the sooner all information is in the sooner we can all relax and enjoy our day, thank you.
The club’s weekly junior soccer academy continues every Saturday morning [weather permitting] under the watchful eye of senior club coaches Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke and Jimmy Nolan. The academy takes place on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years.
Tickets are on sale throughout the month of February right up to midnight on Monday 28th February for our 50/50 draw. The cost of a ticket is only €5, you can subscribe to a monthly payment option, so that you won’t forgot to enter into the draw each month. The Jackpot prize is €2,100 for our March draw and will go up by a minimum of €100 per month if not won. Tickets will be available to purchase online via our club shop website www.wicklowroversclubshop.com on an ongoing basis, you can also purchase your tickets by contacting any committee member or any club member.
