Our under 18 girls took on St Ita's of Portrane at Whitegates this morning. In what was a tight encounter Rovers claimed all three points in a 2-1 win. Both teams were understrength playing with the bare minimum of 11 girls with no subs. It was an evenly matched contest throughout with two equally matched sides. There were some excellent chances at both ends in the first half with both keepers pulling off some good saves. At the end of the first 45 minutes the teams went in 0-0 at half time, probably a fair reflection on the first half. The second half was more of the same with both sides pressing looking for the lead goal and it came on the hour mark when the away side went in front with a well taken goal. Rovers reshuffled the pack and went with three up front. It paid dividends straight away when Rovers levelled through the lethal Molly Sweeney. The recovery was complete when Molly Sweeney added her second of the game and her thirty second of the season to edge Rovers in front. The game remained balanced on a knife edge and Rovers were relieved to hear the full time whistle and take the three points.
