Our WDFL Premier side made a winning start to their Wicklow cup campaign when they defeated Newtown United B 5-0 at Whitegates tonight. It was Newtown who started the brighter and in the first ten minutes they created problems for Rovers with two well struck free kicks, one produced an excellent save from the keeper with the second striking the woodwork. Rovers gradually worked their way into the game and goals from James Lang and Jack Fox saw them go in at the break in control. In truth from this point on Rovers were in total control and added three second half goals from Dean Noble, Luca Rampersaud and Rian Sweetman Burke to run out 5-0 winners. To Newtown's credit they kept going and battled right up to the end but found Rovers too strong on the night.
