Our Leinster Senior side entertained second placed Killester/Donnycarney FC at Whitegates this afternoon. The visitors came to Wicklow in a rich vein of form and firm favourites in this match. The first half saw Rovers have the majority of possession pushing the away side back but at the break it was the Dublin side who were in front after netting from their one clear cut opening. On the first half evidence neutrals would have thought Rovers were the higher placed side. The second half continued in the same vein as the first with Rovers on the front foot causing their opponents numerous problems. A brace from Sam Brown saw Rovers hit the front, a lead they richly deserved. Upfront Ciaran McGettigan was proving to be a handful and a constant nuisance to the away defence. It was Ciaran's surging runs that won Rovers a couple of penalties but unfortunately for Rovers they didn't take advantage of the spot kicks with the keeper saving both. To rub salt in the wounds Killester/Donnycarney equalised to earn a share of the spoils which was definitely against the run of play. Before the game a point for the lads would have been a great result but on the balance of play the lads will know they could and probably should have taken all three points considering their dominance of the game. It proved to be a good all round team performance and gives them something to build on.
