Our WDFL Premier team welcomed league leaders St Peters to Whitegates tonight. In what was very uneventful first half it was the away side who looked the more dangerous going forward. Thirteen minutes in saw the first chance of note when Peters went close with a lobbed effort that fell the wrong side of the post. Four minutes later they struck the post and from the rebound Ian Murphy was alert to turn the ball away. The only other chance in the half fell to Rovers and it was a Jack Fox effort that was straight at the keeper. The teams went in at the break scoreless. The second half saw more of the same with a lot of play around the middle third of the pitch. The game was void of many clear cut openings especially for the home side. It was the more experienced Peters side who ground out a valuable three points when they converted two chances that came their way in the fifty third and seventy seventh minute. Rovers never gave up playing some neat football around the middle of the park but they just couldn't breach a strong Peters rearguard. Jack Fox came closest when he cut in from the left after a good Rovers move only to see his shot drift wide of the far post. The lads gave everything on the night but in fairness the Bray outfit deserved their 2-0 win using all their experience to gain three valuable points in their quest for the title. It was the lads first game since the first weekend in December so they will be hoping to build on this and get back to winning ways.
