CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 16th JANUARY 2022
Our Leinster Senior side travelled to Belfield to take on UCD on Saturday in their first competitive game of the new year. It proved to be a very tight affair with the home side running out 1-0 winners. The lads put in a tremendous team effort against a good UCD team and will probably count themselves a little unlucky not to get something from the game. They had their chances but in fairness it was a very even game where a draw would probably have been the fairest outcome.
With the new WDSL season only a couple of months away the club have fixed the open training schedule for the various age groups in the junior section. The relevant information is as follows: Under 8’s [Born 2015] 9.45am to 10.45am on Saturday 22nd of January; Under 8’s [Born 2014] 9.45am to 10.45am on Saturday 22nd of January; Under 9’s [Born 2013] 11.00am to 12.00pm on Saturday 22nd of January; Under 10’s [Born 2012] 12.15pm to 1.15pm on Saturday 22nd of January; Under 11’s [Born 2011] 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Saturday 22nd of January; All the under 8’s to under 11’s open training sessions will be held at St Patricks National School Pitch. Under 12’s [Born 2010] 6pm to 7pm on Friday 20th of January at Whitegates; Under 13’s [Born 2009] 9.45am to 10.45am on Saturday 22nd of January at Whitegates: Under 14’s [Born 2008] To Be Confirmed; Under 15’s [Born 2007] 12.15pm to 1.15pm on Saturday 22nd of January at Whitegates. All players should try to attend their relevant session, if any existing players intend on playing this season but can’t attend the scheduled open training session they should contact club secretary Stephen Clarke at 086-0454221 or by email to wicklowroverssecretary@gmail.com All new players are welcomed to attend the club’s open training sessions, if you are a new player and are interested in playing for the club but can’t attend the open training session relevant to your age please contact our club secretary.
Our monthly 50/50 draw jackpot is now at €2000, February’s draw tickets are on sale up till midnight on Monday the 31st of January. The draw will take place on Tuesday night the 1st of February with the winner been guaranteed fifty percent of monies taken in and then have a chance to win the €2000 jackpot if their bonus ball comes out in main national lottery draw following their name been drawn from the drum. Tickets cost €5 each and can be purchased online at www.wicklowroversclub shop.com or alternatively you can purchase tickets from any committee member or any club member. This is a fundraiser to try and improve facilities around the club, there is so much the club would like to do, for example we would like to convert the sand based area into an all weather training area but without the support of the draw this is hard to achieve. We have other ideas in the pipeline with a small but hard working committee trying to achieve their goals for the benefit of our membership so please help us by supporting this fundraiser. Please remember it’s the members who benefit from the club facilities, so we ask again please support our fundraiser.
With the Christmas period now well and truly behind us our Saturday morning junior academy is back in full swing. Our academy continues every Saturday morning [weather permitting] throughout the year under the watchful eye of senior club coaches Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke and Jimmy Nolan. The academy takes place on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years.
