WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 9th JANUARY 2022
The executive committee of Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to wish the managers, assistant managers, coaches, players, our academy participants, parents, supporters of the club and our friends in sport a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We would also like to wish a happy New Year to all the clubs, WDSL committee, WDFL committee, LSL committee, MGL committee, referees, Brendan Lawrence and all the staff of the Wicklow People. Here’s hoping we finally see an end to the pandemic and get back to some normality in 2022, stay safe everyone.
Congratulations to Cyril Evans who was the recent winner of our January 50/50 draw, Cyril picked up a cheque for €262.50c. Unfortunately, he failed to add the €1900 jackpot when his bonus ball 21 failed to emerge from the drum in the main lotto draw on the Wednesday night. Our 50/50 draw continues on a monthly basis. With the bonus ball jackpot not won for the January draw it now means our February bonus ball jackpot stands at €2000. The draw is being held on Tuesday 1st of February and tickets are on sale throughout the month of January right up till midnight on the 31st of January. Remember once your name is drawn from the drum you are guaranteed 50 percent of monies taken in on ticket sales and then you have a second chance to win if your bonus ball number comes out in the main lotto draw that follows your name been drawn from the drum. You can purchase your 50/50 draw tickets online at www.wicklowroverclubshop.com or from any club member or committee member. The club would like to thank everyone for their continuous support of our 50/50 draw, your support is very much appreciated.
With 2022 upon us the club are seeking interested people who would like to help around the club. The club promote soccer for schoolboys/girls, youths and senior men and ladies in the community, our club is growing all the time and any assistance with the help of running the club would be very much appreciated. At present we have a very hard working committee but we are always on the search for people interested in helping out, the club are always on the look out for people who are interested in getting involved in soccer, whether its coaching and managing or on the executive committee or a sub-committee, maybe you would just like to help as an assistant manager, help with fundraising or help just around the grounds or in any way at all, don’t hesitate, get involved, anyone interested in helping out the club in anyway can contact any committee member. So, if you are interested in doing some work around the club, please contact any of the following committee members, Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke, Paul Delaney, Ross Byrne, Trevor Conyard, Corinna Collins or Jimmy Nolan. Contact numbers can be found on the club website or alternatively you can private message our club facebook page. Remember the more people we get involved the smaller amount of work everyone will have to do. At present we have people like Franny Copeland, Maria Lewins, Anthony Earls, and Colin Hindle helping out doing non-executive roles which takes the pressure of committee members. If everyone does a bit, it takes the pressure off others. So, if you feel you have something to offer why not have a chat with one of our committee members and see where you can help our club prosper.
The club’s weekly junior soccer academy resumes this coming Saturday after the Christmas break, it was due to start back last Saturday but the bad weather put paid to it. We hope all the kids had a fantastic Christmas and were good for their parents. Our academy continues every Saturday morning [weather permitting] under the watchful eye of senior club coaches Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke and Jimmy Nolan. The academy takes place on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years. We look forward to seeing you all back at Whitegates on Saturday mornings, see you then.
