WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 18th DECEMBER 2021

The executive committee of Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to wish the managers, assistant managers, coaches, players, our academy participants, parents, supporters of the club and our friends in sport a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. We would also like to wish a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all the clubs, WDSL committee, WDFL committee, LSL committee, MGL committee, referees, Brendan Lawrence and all the staff of the Wicklow People. Without all these people we could not provide football and media coverage week in week out for all the members of our clubs. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to one and all.

Our 50/50 draw continues on a monthly basis. With the bonus ball jackpot not won for the December draw it now means our January bonus ball jackpot stands at €1900. The draw is being held on Tuesday 4th of January and tickets are on sale throughout the month of December right up till midnight on the 31st of December. Remember once your name is drawn from the drum you are guaranteed 50 percent of monies taken in on ticket sales and then you have a second chance to win if your bonus ball number comes out in the main lotto draw following your name been drawn from the drum. Wicklow Rovers AFC promote soccer for schoolboys/girls, youths and senior men and ladies in the community, our club is growing all the time and any assistance with the help of running the club would be very much appreciated. At present we have a very hard working committee but we are always on the search for people interested in helping out, the club are always on the look out for people who are interested in getting involved in soccer, whether its coaching and managing or on the executive committee or a sub-committee, maybe you would just like to help as an assistant manager, help with fundraising or help just around the grounds or in any way at all, don’t hesitate, get involved, anyone interested in helping out the club in anyway can contact any committee member. So, if you are interested in doing some work around the club, please contact any of the following committee members, Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke, Paul Delaney, Ross Byrne, Trevor Conyard, or Jimmy Nolan. Remember the more people we get involved the smaller amount of work everyone will have to do. At present we have people like Franny Copeland, Maria Lewins, Anthony Earls, Corinna Collins and Colin Hindle helping out doing non executive roles which takes the pressure of committee members. During the summer Kevin Czwalina, BA Franey and Colin Hindle ran our golf classic, it’s help like this that the club are seeking. If everyone does a bit it takes the pressure off others, the club were so grateful and appreciated their help so much. So, if you feel you have something to offer why not have a chat with one of our committee members and see where you can help our club prosper.

Everyone at the club were shocked and saddened to hear the recent heartbreaking news of the sad passing of Katriona Rowan. Katriona was a big supporter of our club and her husband David is a great servant of the club currently playing with our Leinster Senior team. Katriona and David attended our junior academy with their son Josh every Saturday and was always a real lady, so friendly and always had a smile on her face. She showed great strength of character that despite her illness was always there keeping a watchful eye on Josh’s progress in the academy from the sidelines. She is an inspiration to us all and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, a truly lovely lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with David and their two sons Josh and Fionn, her mother and father Collette and Butch, brothers Lee and Warren, her mother in law Olive, her extended family, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
