WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 12th DECEMBER 2021

Only two games took place at the weekend, the third team entertained high flying Greystones United at Whitegates in a division 1 league game and came up against a clinical Greystones outfit on the day. The lads started off well enough but two quick fire goals at the midway point of the first half from the away side put them in the driving seat. The lads never recovered from this setback as Greystones went on to win 8-1 with Jack Fox nabbing the Rovers consolation goal.

Our under 18’s made their exit from the Leinster Youth cup on Saturday. They made the journey to Ardee to take on local side Ardee Celtic and came up against a strong side. The lads lost out 4-1 but they gave everything on the day. Zach Harris netted the Rovers consolation goal and will now enjoy a well earned break for the Christmas.

Our Saturday junior academy had its last session prior to Christmas and yet again the kids turned out in big numbers. Despite the damp miserable morning the kids had a fun time and it was made even more special when the main man dropped into Whitegates to make a special visit to the kids. Yes, Santa took time out from his busy schedule to pay all the kids from the academy a quick visit to see if they were all on their best behaviour and he wasn't disappointed as all the kids have according to the mams and dads been very good. Santa had a few words for the kids ensuring they will all be good in the build up to Christmas and to keep up their football training. The executive committee of the club would like to wish all our academy kids, their parents and families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Also, a big thanks to Corrina Collins who runs our shop every Saturday morning, thanks to Anthony Earls, Paul Delaney and Johnny Dunne who meet and greet as everyone arrives. Also, a massive thanks to our coaches who without our academy wouldn't be as successful as it is, so a massive thanks to Stephen Clarke, John Kenny, Cormac Finn, Stephen Earls and Joe Quinn for all their help throughout the year. A special thanks to Maurice Dunne who helped make sure Santa arrived safely and on time, thanks Maurice. Thank you everyone and have a great Christmas. The academy takes a break now till the new year, it will resume as normal on Saturday the 8th of January, we look forward to seeing you all back in 2022.

Congratulations to Margaret Dunne who won our December 50/50 draw scooping €270, unfortunately for Margaret she failed to add the bonus ball jackpot of €1800 to her winnings when her bonus number 22 didn’t come out in the main lotto draw. What this means is our January bonus ball jackpot now stands at €1900 with the draw been held on Tuesday 4th of January. You can purchase your 50/50 draw tickets online at www.wicklowroverclubshop.com or from any club member or committee member. The club would like to thank everyone for their continuous support of our 50/50 draw, your support is very much appreciated.

With Christmas fast approaching the executive committee of Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to wish the managers, assistant managers, coaches, players, our academy participants, parents, supporters of the club and our friends in sport a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. We would also like to wish a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all the clubs, WDSL committee, WDFL committee, LSL committee, MGL committee, referees, Brendan Lawrence and all the staff of the Wicklow People. Without all these people we could not provide football and media coverage week in week out for all the members of our clubs. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to one and all.

Everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC would like to extend their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patrick Hore of Wicklow Town who sadly passed away recently. In the early days of our club Pat was on our club committee and carried out a lot of hard work at the time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Marguerite, daughter Trisha, sons Eric and Keith, his grandchildren Erin, Daire, Patrick, Arlo, Ena and Evan, his brother John, sisters Agnes, Betty, Anne and Margaret, daughters in law Maria and Mandy, son in law Gary, extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.
