Our under 15's welcomed Mountmellick United to Whitegates this afternoon in the last 16 of the South Leinster section of the SFAI cup. Mountmellick took a one nil lead on ten minutes when their midfielder scored a cracking goal from a free kick twenty five yards out. As in the last round this team never dropped their heads and equalised after fifteen minutes when a corner was well worked between Charlie Czwalina and Georgie O'Neill. Czwalina put the ball over the keepers head to level matters up. Evan Conyard twice and Lorcan Sinnott both should have put Rovers ahead before the break but both shot over and headed wide when through on goal. Rovers started the second half brightly and their pressure paid off when Brandon Battams strength and clever pass put Czwalina through and he made no mistake to put Rovers 2-1 ahead. Rovers defence marshalled by Sean O'Toole was superb throughout and thwarted any attack. Rovers third came when a clever ball from Evan Conyard cutting in from the right and squaring to Czwalina who finished brilliantly for his hat trick. Rovers kept pressing and Daniel Kavanagh got his reward when a half volley from Jack Macklin put Kavanagh through and he delightfully lobbed the keeper to score Rovers fourth and send the home crowd wild. A great result and a home quarter final tie against the winners of Newbridge B or Naas AFC to look forward to. All players stood up to the mark today but Alex Earls in centre midfield was superb and tenacious, Sean O'Toole in defence was strong and combatitive, Conyard and Sinnott on both wings caused their defence all sorts of problems but Czwalina with a superbly taken hat trick rightfully takes the plaudits for man of the match.
