Our Leinster Senior side took on Dublin Hospitals FC at Whitegates this afternoon. In a tight first half with chances at a premium it was a fine finish from Sam Brown that seperated the teams at the break, his lovely lobbed effort put Rovers one up which remained the score at the break. Nathan Sullivan did go close to increasing the lead but didn't take his chance when it came his way. The second half was totally controlled by Rovers and Sam Brown went close to doubling the lead in the fifty third minute but his goal bound shot was turned around the post by the keeper. The resulting Ian Brannigan corner found the head of David O'Connor who watched agonisingly as his glancing header went narrowly wide. Soon after Doc showed great determination to work his way into a scoring position only for the keeper to deny him. On sixty five minutes a Peter Finnegan free kick looked destined for the corner of the net but the keeper saved at full stretch. With fifteen minutes left on the clock Sam Brown got on end of a cross but his header looped over the bar. Rovers finally put the game to bed with three minutes remaining, a nice flowing move involving Rikki Quinn, Tommy Smullen and Jim Foley ended with Dylan Orr coolly slotting past the advancing keeper to ensure all three points were staying at Whitegates. A minute later Dylan Orr produced the keeper into another good save. Rovers comfortably saw out the remaining minutes for a deserved victory. It was a good all round solid team performance from the lads with Sam Brown probably just edging man of the match with that lobbed effort and a consistent threat to the away defence.
