Our WDFL Premier team entertained Roundwood at Whitegates tonight in a league game. It was Rovers who were the quickest from the traps and found themselves one up after ten minutes when Jack Fox fired home a free kick from twenty five yards out. Jamie Power made it 2-0 just before the half hour mark to give Rovers a bit of breathing space. It wasn't all one way traffic as Roundwood created a couple of chances, one of those chances was snuffed out by brave keeping from Conor Clack as he bravely dived to smother at the feet of two Roundwood players. Rovers put the game out of reach of a spirited away side in the space of three minutes just before the break. Three minutes before the break James Lang cut in from the right to blast home to make it 3-0 and then right on the stroke of half time Jamie Power nabbed his second of the game and Rovers fourth with a delightful lob over the advancing keeper to make it 4-0. Two minutes into the second period Jack Fox was denied by an excellent save from the Roundwood keeper. In truth Rovers seem to take the foot of the gas in the second half and they were made to pay when the away side pulled one back after sixty five minutes. They also rattled the crossbar but that sixty fifth minute goal proved to be the end of the scoring. Rovers did create a couple of half chances late on but the keeper saved on both occasions. Rovers on the balance of play deserved their 4-1 victory in what was a good team performance.
