Our under 15's travelled the short distance down to Arklow Town this morning in the first round of the SFAI National cup and turned in a performance of the year to come away with a fantastic 6-2 win. Things didn’t start great when Arklow Town took a tenth minute lead when sloppy defending allowed their midfielder to score a good goal into the roof of the net. Rovers pushed for an equaliser and came close from an Evan Conyard free kick and a Harri Armstrong header that flashed just wide of the post. Rovers were hit with a sucker punch when a long range effort was well saved by Eoghan Doyle but the rebound fell to an Arklow player to finish into an empty net. Credit to Rovers they never dropped the heads and got back into the game when an Evan Conyard corner found Lorcan Sinnott who made no mistake to head home. The second half started with Rovers again on the front foot and this time a corner from Lorcan Sinnott found Jack Macklin to head home for the equaliser. Rovers then took a deserved lead when Harri Armstrong pounced on a dropped ball from the keeper. The next goal and Rovers fourth was a thing of beauty. Brandon Battams who worked tirelessly all day broke forward and put Harri Armstrong through. The big striker cut back to Evan Conyard who delivered a delightful ball to Charlie Czwalina at the back post whose cushion header found Sinnott who made no mistake to rifle home and give Rovers a two goal advantage. Rovers fifth came when Harri Armstrong broke through on goal only for the keeper to save well, Charlie Czwalina was on the rebound straight away and he saw his effort hand balled on the line. After the resulting red card Czwalina stepped up and cooly slotted home to put the game to bed. Lorcan Sinnott would get his hat trick when he superbly worked down the left and smashing home to get rovers sixth. Sinnott who captained on the day was superb throughout as was the whole team. A brilliant performance which sets up a home tie against either Mountmellick or Arklow United.
