Our Leinster Senior side put in a brave performance away to Kilbarrack United in the first round of the Leinster Junior Cup. A very much understrength Rovers team took the game to their opponents throughout the match and didn't get the rewards their performance merited losing out 2-1. Even though the lads fell behind as early as eight minutes they showed great character to level matters when Sam Brown coolly fired past the advancing keeper after twenty two minutes. Both teams had chances before the break but neither could get their noses in front. The second half saw Rovers put the home side under the cosh in search of a winner, unfortunately for Rovers they got hit on the break with eight minutes remaining when the Dublin side edged in front. Rovers piled forward in search of an equalizer and Sam Brown came so close only to be denied by an excellent save by the home keeper. All in all Rovers put in a competitive display and didn't get the rewards they deserved, they had several players playing out of position with Ian Brannigan and David O'Connor working hard across the middle, it was a good all round team performance with Davy Rowan, Rikki Quinn, Jim Foley, Mick Delaney and Sam Brown coming in for a special mention.
