WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 29th AUGUST 2021

There was no action on the senior front this week, so it was down to the junior section to provide us with the action on the playing field. On Thursday night the under 12 green team took on the under 12 white team with the greens running out victors on the night. Ciaran McCaul, Wolsey Sloan Kelly and Ted Hasler all found the net for the greens to help them maintain their one hundred percent record against their spirited club mates.

On Saturday our under 12 green team produced another excellent performance to record a fantastic win at home against Roundwood at Whitegates. Fighting for the top spot at the end of this league, the team made no mistake. The team kept their one hundred percent record intact following a 10-2 victory. Roundwood put it up to Rovers for a time, but Rovers proved very clinical in front of goal. Goalscorers on the day saw Ciaran McCaul and Wolsey Sloan Kelly both register hat-tricks with Liam Cawley and NJ Sinnott both nabbing a brace a piece. The under 12 white team made the short journey to Ballinalea Park to take on local neighbours Ashford Rovers. The game proved to be a thrilling affair with both sides playing some neat football. After an entertaining match it was probably fitting that the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. It was a game that could have went either way with both teams having chances to win. Our goalscorers on the day were Charlie Gavin and Max Hennessy. The only competitive game on Sunday was our 13A’s tussle at home to Enniskerry and the team returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 9-0 victory. Naoise Delaney led the way with an excellent hat-trick, Josh McCall and David Johnson both hit two goals each with Sam Behan and Conor Martin both firing home singles in what was a clinical all round display from the team.

The club’s weekly junior soccer academy continues every Saturday morning [weather permitting] under the watchful eye of senior club coaches Johnny Dunne, Stephen Clarke and Jimmy Nolan. The academy takes place on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years.
