Our Leinster Senior team kicked off their season this afternoon with a 3-3 draw with Finglas United at Whitegates. Nathan Sullivan was first to test the away keeper but his effort was straight at the keeper. Rovers made the early running in the game and were on top for the first fifteen minutes without creating a clear cut opening. Totally against the run of play the Dublin side went in front when they broke downfield and caught Rovers out with a suckerpunch to take the lead. Their lead didn't last long though as three minutes later Tommy Smullen levelled matters. A minute after Rovers were in front when Dylan Orr fired home. After twenty six minutes the sides were all square again when the Finglas winger coolly slotted home. Just before the break Rovers had Davy Rowan to thank for preserving parity when his last ditch tackle saw him block the ball as the striker was about to shoot. The second half started with Davy Rowan going close at the other end when he got on the end of a corner but was unlucky to see his header flash wide. Both sides traded another goal each with Rovers third coming from the penalty spot. Daniel Tarcevskis was taken down and up stepped David O'Connor to calmly send the keeper the wrong way. After this the game petered out into stalemate with both keepers been only troubled on one occasion each. On the final whistle both sets of players were out on their feet in the searing heat.
