Wicklow Rovers 14B took on Ashford in a top-of-the-table clash at Whitegates that certainly didn’t disappoint.

Rovers started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead after just 9 minutes. Lukas Araminus cleverly hooked the ball over his head from the edge of the box to the back post, where Casey Brennan smashed home into the top of the Ashford net.

Rovers had the chance to double their advantage on 17 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but the Ashford keeper produced a fine save to his right to deny Brennan from the spot.

Ashford capitalised on a defensive lapse to level the game, but Rovers regained control and went back in front on the half-hour mark. Seb Gould split the defence with a perfectly weighted pass for Brennan, who finished clinically to notch his 20th goal of the season.

Rovers came flying out of the blocks after the break and made it 3–1 within 20 seconds of the restart, as Nathan Vickers broke down the left and finished superbly.

Despite creating further chances, Rovers suffered injuries to both Araminus and Gould, which disrupted their rhythm. Ashford took full advantage, pulling two goals back in the 62nd and 67th minutes to level the match at 3–3.

There were some great battling performances all over the pitch, but our Man of the Match on the day goes to Cian Foley for his determined and high-quality display.  A thrilling contest from start to finish - thank you to Ashford for a great, competitive game. We look forward to the return fixture!
